September Summary

September just flew by! I don't know if it's because of the warm weather or the students are just kept so busy in class, but October is upon us far too soon. Here are some of the highlights from this past month:
- Student of the day bulletin board: Each student has his or her picture on display with interesting facts about them, all from classmates' input.

- Pattern unit: We explored all types of repeating, growing, and shrinking patterns in math, poems,  songs and phys.Ed activities. The students worked together to create pattern posters, showing specific grade-level learning outcomes. We also took a tour of the neighbourhood and documented patterns around Lakeview School.
- Fall leaves: Please check out the students' fabulous artwork in the hallway and on our window. Many teachers have complimented the students on their work. Our librarian commented that she thought I drew most of the pictures!
- Classroom swap: The Grade 2s work with Mme Suttill's Kindergartens, and I work with all the Grade 1s for one period a day. This gives the Grade 1s a chance to focus on reading skills at their level, and gives the Grade 2s a chance to be a teacher and role model for the Kindergartens, with excellent results!

We will end September with our "store" this Friday, September 30th. I did hand out some "fines" but the students are quickly learning the expectations & responsibilities in the class, and for the most part follow them with few reminders.

Please consider donating to our store. I accept donations at any time. Stickers, small toys, beads or other craft items, collector cards, etc. make excellent items to "sell." If you have any such items that you want to get rid of in your house, I will gladly take them off your hands, provided they are not too big nor fragile. The store items will be priced quite high (I do not want your child to go home with bags & bags of stuff), and I will expect the children to use their math skills to purchase items at our store. Our store hours will be from 1-3 p.m. this Friday afternoon, September 30th. I will show a film in French (rated G of course). All students will pay admission, then visit the store during the film. This will all take place in the classroom. You are most welcome to drop in, maybe even sell a few items for us! Please e-mail me if you have any questions about our store.
